The definitive characteristic of a human being to me, is we are violent and dangerous.Sense the beginning of time man has been a weapon of mass destruction. Not just in terms of war but in politics and people you know. Being the age that I am there are still things i have to learn and I'm willing to learn them, but from information I already know, dangerous seems like the proper word.
If we look through the history books certainly someone might agree with me. War is a pretty distinct example of violence. Great rulers like like Julius Cesar and conquerors like Genghis Khan had there fair share. The civil war was fought for some of the dumbest reasons. The biggest reason was slavery. Why they African American community should have the same rights as white Americans. Lets look at 1939-1945 when world war 2. 1941, December 7 when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. This was a graphic example of how we can be caught off guard. Imagine us now if we didn't retaliate and were forced to accept any one of these ideas, but lets bring it towards the present. Are soldiers in Iraq (God knows where else) where they are truly experiencing "war is hell" and we are expected to be there for another three years, but do we need to be there at all. Not that it isn't noble to help a friend but this was a civil war that we got involved in. Not to judge former President George W. Bush but this was the same president who allowed Osama Bin Ladin to attack the world trade center after getting a tree month heads up. A bloody an absolutely terrifying moment in our nations history with over 3,000 dead and even more wounded and sick. This country seen dangerous and scary incidents through out our history the question what will we change about it.
Humans are not just dangerous with a stick and yelling and screaming. There are ways to be just as with a voice. Starting with a man who was a president, Abraham Lincoln. Someone who not just wanted to stand up for the African American community but for all peoples. Martin Luther King Jr. or Gandhi were men who wanted make a difference and was killed for it. Just from speaking these two men were a danger to life as people knew it back then and in trying to make a change they were assassinated. Is America thus simple minded to kill men for something they strongly believed in. What about congress the people that say what we can and cannot do. They justify the laws we abide by and can change them at will. How dangerous is that to us, well lets think for a second. Troy Davis in 1989 was convicted of the murder of a police officer. Davis had several execution cases in 2007-08. On Sep.7, 2011even after the jury had admitted to giving false testimony and crowds of people the supreme court still went through with the execution. People are without a doubt a violence species but to what extent.
In the animal kingdom there a minor but understandable reasons as to why there are violent. Hippopotamus kill anything that will invade its territory. Lions and other animals will fate for mate even to the point of death if necessary. So, are humans way of thinking the same? Well sort of but there is a difference that separates us. The biggest is the fact we have weapons. The gatling gun was invented in 1862 and was the first rapid fire weapon that was primarily used in the civil war. A latest design of a weapon witch was responsible for the death 390,000 dead Japanese men, woman, and children at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the atomic bomb. In what was called the nuclear age how much more can we create from this incident. In 2003 when we had first invaded Iraq we tried to hit it with everything and we did. 100 aircraft attacks were sent to a western Iraq and were from 7-14 attacks per month. The extent from year to year have been the test and we have learned to advance are weaponry. Some would call it unnecessary and for some they would call it for safety purposes.
Some of this source of violence is used to intimidate and some is for what we call "protection". The Ku Klux Klan was a organized white men that were against immigration and were for white supremacy. To get that message across they would hang black people and they would also humiliate and chase them out of town. Hitler was a man who believed that Jews and anyone that did not have blond hair in blues was impure. Organized the murder of 17 million civilians and 6 million Jews in what was called the holocaust. Hitler also had never killed a man in his whole life, except for himself, but was still able to lead the Nazis to the slaughter of all these people.
Life has many qualities and there are good ones and bad. Whether it be weapons of mass destruction or peace it is something we strive for to do better at. The first war strategy was to strike head and over time we have developed gorilla war fair. For 43 years we had know means to have a African American as president and now things have changed. Things change for better or for worse, the past is the past. What can we do to create a better future is are toughest assignment for years to come.
